I'm so conflicted writing a review. The food is fantastic (fish tacos, taco salad, and chicken strips are great!) but the place is an absolute dive. It's dirty, lights are burnt out inside, visible dirt caked on the floor (I can't imagine what the kitchens look like), and the outside patio is bowing in the center to the point you actually feel uncomfortable sitting there. Large, fresh cracks can be noticed in some of the support beams holding up the patio. The stairs and walkways are uneven.
We had high hopes of a good view and great food. The vegan burger was so spicy my friend needed more water. I got the grinder and it was the saddest sandwich; very soggy and the bread wasn’t even toasted. We asked for pickle hats and we’re told they’re usually out. The drink was good and the view was less than pretty
Service was not the best waitress made several trips bringing one item at a time when asked for silverware and napkins etc. The food was a good temperature the fried was just a bit burnt but still very good option and would get again. The view is worth the trip and the birds were fun if you don’t mind almost being attacked gave us tons of laughs .. we survived without any harm to birds or us ! It was a great experience overall :)
Fish is fresh and very tasty. The carrots really hit the spot. Do yourself a favor and sit on the patio for a great view and breeze.
My first time at Pickles after years of coming up with my husband. Neat looking place with indoor and outdoor dining.
The menu has a few different things I wouldn't mind trying, but I stuck with the whitefish sandwich and onion straws. The whitefish sandwich tasted amazing! Really nicely done, and the tartar sauce complimented it nicely. The onion straws could really have used some ranch.
Service was nice. The waitress checked on me several times, and another employee really took to the kids visiting there and made sure they had Pickles hats.
Only grip I had besides no ranch for the onion straws (or ketchup for that matter) is the table was kinda gross in that sticky way.
I was excited to try this spot! First thing we were told when we walked in was that the kitchen was a bit behind, but they didn't tell us how long. It's okay, we were patient people. The restaurant was not clean, gross dead flies in-between window panes, and the servers were sitting on their phones at the entrance. They did not have their fried pickles (I was very sad not to be able to get pickles at Pickle's) and it took an hour to get a salad and club sandwich. They only had one POS, which took time to get the bill and pay.
We are usually very patient people, thankfully it was a beautiful night, but we were severely disappointed.
This isn't the first we have visited Pickles. Some of the best food in the eastern UP! I had the whitefish basket and Ken had whitefish tacos. Both were delicious and a very filling meal!
Pickles always has the great selection of food and drinks, and they make a good cup of coffee!✌️❤️

If you go in the summer, you can sit outside overlooking Lake Superior Bay.
You can boat there at their dock if you're out fishing or just cruising in your boat.
